French onion soup

Ingredients
4 medium onions, sliced
4 tbsp vegan margarine
1 vegetable stock cube
1/4 cup dry white wine
2 cloves garlic, minced
water
1 slice of white bread
(some vegan cheese)
Directions
In a pan, fry the onon slices with margarine until they become very brown and soft (don't let them burn). Transfer the onion in a pot and add the wine. Heat for some minutes, until the wine is starting to vaporize, add a couple of cups of water, the vegetable stock cube and the garlic. Stir and cook on low heat for 20-30 minutes. Stir occasionally and add some water. The soup should be rather thick.
Spread some margarine on the bread slice and bake in the oven until crisp and golden brown, or alternatively, roast the slice in a toaster. Transfer some soup to a small bowl and place the bread slice halfway in the soup. If using cheese, sprinkle some cheese on the bread and heat the soup (in an oven-proof dish) for some minutes, until the cheese has melted.
